Cango Caves
Tucked away in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains 29km from Oudtshoorn in the picturesque Cango Valley, lies the spectacular Cango Caves.

Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest dripstone caverns, with their vast halls and towering formations.

Lost in absolute darkness, a deep stillness, a constant temperature and high humidity, it is a wonder world of unique scenery and calcite masterpieces formed by gently dripping water.

Tours are through just a few of the natural chambers and take one to one-and-a-half hours to explore. Each chamber displays a limestone masterpiece created by the forces of nature.

Over a period of 20 million years, a 24 km limestone band with cracks and fissures formed in the ridge.  Water percolated into the fissures, gradually dissolving limestone and forming the incredible formations that we see today.

Ostrich Show Farms
Buffelsdrift on the road to the Cango Caves where you will have the opportunity to see a working ostrich farm and learn more about this dynamic industry. Visitors can experience flock movement, feeding, breeding and feather plucking.

Chandelier Game Lodge & Ostrich Show Farm is 7km from Oudtshoorn. Visitors can participate in the daily activities on the working ostrich show farm, like feather clipping.
Safari Ostrich Show Farm is an operating farm. Upon arrival visitors are greeted by multi-lingual guides who will, during the course of the tour explain every aspect of ostrich farming, from breeding to rearing.

Cango Ostrich Show Farm is located in the lush Cango Valley, 14km from Oudtshoorn on the main route towards the world famous Cango Caves.

During your visit to Highgate experience the world's largest bird and even enjoy riding the birds, standing on their eggs to prove their strength, touch the birds and cuddle the chicks.

Cango Wildlife Ranch
Initially a crocodile show farm, 1988 saw the birth of The Cheetah Conservation Foundation to highlight the plight of the endangered cheetah.

View exotic and endangered animals in the Valley of Ancients, including the Cape Vulture, Madagascar Lemur, Greater Flamingo, Spotted-necked Otter, Pygmy Hippo, Marabou Stork and the infamous Nile Crocodile.

Cheetahland is home to various big cats including the Bengal and African tiger, rare White lion and of course the magnificent cheetah.

For the adventurous Crocodile Cage Diving with 4 meter Nile crocodiles is a sure fire way to get the adrenalin pumping or you can try to sit still while a python wraps itself around your shoulders!

Ma Bettie’s
Ma Betty runs her authentic Xhosa Village with pride and together with a group of women, prepares food according to old Xhosa tradition in black iron pots over an open wood fire.

Entertainment is in the form of energetic dancing and stories related animatedly by a traditional healer (Sangoma), accompanied by Xhosa singing.

Rust-en-Vrede waterfall
Rust-en-Vrede is situated on a scenic detour off the R328, 18km from Oudtshoorn on the way to the world famous Cango Caves.

The waterfall is hidden among the bracken-clad heights and a walk over little bridges  along the mountain trail will get you there.

Beautiful multi-coloured wild flowers bloom in great profusion alongside the routes while far below amid ferns and undergrowth, a gushing river ripples over rocky edges.

The scenic and peaceful trail ends in great reward. Collected at your feet is a crystal pool that has its origins in a spring high up in the mountains. Legend has it that a beautiful mermaid resides in the pool, so keep a lookout for her!

Rust-en-Vrede is a safe sanctuary for indigenous plant and animal life; a precious asset of the Klein Karoo and Cango Valley.

Anysberg Nature Reserve
Anysberg Nature Reserve lies in the Klein Karoo between Ladismith, Laingsburg, Touwsrivier and Montagu and is approximately four hours drive from Cape Town. The reserve offers some of the most striking scenery in the Karoo.

The route starts in Montagu and wends its way through Barrydale, Ladismith and Calitzdorp, ending in Oudtshoorn and De Rust and forms part of Route 62, reputedly the longest wine route in the world.
Calitzdorp is known as the ‘port wine capital’ and some six wine cellars also produce fine brandy.
The annual Klein Karoo Food and Wine Festival in December draws visitors from far and wide.

Swartberg Mountains
Once considered almost impenetrable, there are now three major gateways via the Swartberg Pass, Meiringspoort and Seweweekspoort that links the Cape Karoo with the Klein Karoo and the coast.

Meiringspoort
Soaring cliff walls with spectacular rock formations line the 25 km tarred road which winds along the floor of the gorge, crossing the Groot River 25 times. Entry to Meiringspoort is via Klaarstroom, 55 km east of Prince Albert en route to Oudtshoorn and the coast.
Among the most scenic spots is the waterfall tumbling into a dark pool. Meiringspoort has been flooded several times in its 140-year history, so the idea for building a high road over the mountains was born.

Robinson Pass
The Robinson Pass leads to coastal Mossel Bay and offers stunning views of lush forested coastal plain in striking contrast to the semi-arid landscape of the Klein Karoo.
